We are 3 weeks away from the Windows 8 public release and the Surface RT tablet release,but These two products from the Software Giant have already joined the awards lists.

As reported earlier by Neowin Popular Mechanics Recently announced the breakthrough performers of the year 2012 for various categories including products,Innovations etc.Windows 8 along with Surface Tablet has already made to the list of breakthrough product of the year 2012 just weeks before the  official release.

The new Windows 8 operating system reinvents the operating system erasing the distinction between desktops and the touch screen based  tablets,giving the users the choice of using touch input as well as the conventional keyboard and mouse input and the choice to switch between the Modern Ui and the desktop mode,while for the Surface the keyboard doubles up as a protective cover,while the tablet gets a PC functionality courtesy the powerful Intel based processors(for Windows 8 Pro based Surface).

Though the selection of these devices and operating system before the release might feel a bit odd,since Popular Mechanics couldn’t have got ample of time with the device to play before giving this verdict,so it’s unsure on what basis have they awarded these products for this years list.
Nevertheless its’s a good sign of things to come for Microsoft's products as we inch closer to the mega launch on 26th October where we will see Surface RT release along with an array of devices from manufacturers like Dell,Samsung,Acer,Asus and HP.

Microsoft Details in App Advertising in Windows 8 apps

Windows 8 will hit general availability on 26th October and we will see a surge in  the applications downloads from the Windows Store for Windows 8 which will feature a number of Modern UI based applications.

Advertising is an important aspect of revenue generation for the developers,especially when they are making the app availale as a Freeware for the consumers.Recently Microsoft detailed the scenarios of Windows 8 in App advertising,to give the users an idea about how they will see the advertise in an interactive manner in their Windows 8 apps.

Take the UP ad for example,the Advertise which is featured in the NBC news application of Modern UI.Delta Airlines which is launching new ad Campaign “UP” thats all about uping the ante of traveling with their airlines.So when the user is in the NBC app,user can touch on the advertise to expand the ad tile!user can also swipe up the advertise to  continue the visual journey of travel experience—from checking in at the airport, to bags going up the ramp, until the plane is up in the sky—that is simple and aspirational.After the experience is closed, users are returned to the NBC News app content.Agency partner for this Delta campaign is Razorfish.

Another interesting in app advertising campaign is from Papperidge Farm,Who are looking to expand their reach to the teens.Y&R Group who are handling this campaign has come up with a great idea for this advertising in Slacker Radio.This Concept allows users to stay tuned to the app and enjoy the branded experience without leaving the app.They have created a “Music Visualizer” with GoldFish Crackers,so the GoldFish Crackers jump and dance to virtually any track which you are playing on the Slacker Radio app

Firefox Preview for Modern UI Released,Features Detailed

First of all,those who are running the Windows 8 RTM Can right away download and enjoy the Modern UI based Firefox on their systems.

Mozilla has been working on the Modern UI version of Firefox which would run on the Windows 8 operating system.The latest build i.e Firefox 18.1  can be downloaded for those who already have a Windows 8 RTM up and running.

Since the browser is currently in its early stages of development there are some of the features which are disabled in the current build like Flash has been disabled but We will see it in future updates,while Add-On support has also been disabled for this version and will be added via Add-On SDK later on.

Among other things Panning and Zooming support is also disabled,while mouse scrolling is not working at the moment,so users will have to use either the keyboard or the touch input for scrolling through pages.Windows 8 is the only supported operating system for this browser while There is no support for DirectX 9 as of now.

Panasonic announces AX Series Windows 8 Hybrids

Panasonic has recently revealed their upcoming version of Windows 8 devices with their AX series of notebook+tablet hybrid devices.These devices will hit the stores along with the public release of Windows 8 on October 26th and will be initially available for consumers in Japan.

The Foldable Hybrid devices will feature a 11.6″ display With 1366×768 resolution,sports two USB 3.0 ports along with HDMI,Ethernet Jack,SD Card reader,the keyboard is Similar to the one’s found in business laptops these days.

The device will be available in 3 variants, with 1.7Ghz or 1.8Ghz  based i5 processor or a 1.9Ghz based core i7 processor.Though other specifications like 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD are common for all the variants.

While the faster version of i5 and i7 based devices will be bundled with extra cells and the top end hybrid will also sport a projector for business use.Though the pricing is not available at the moment,but since it will release by the public release which is almost 3 weeks away from now,we can expect a word on that sooner rather than later.

Acer’s Powerpacked Iconia W700 Windows 8 Tablet Starts at $799

As we inch closer to the Windows 8 public release its about time for the hardware manufacturers to reveal more details on the pricing and specification details of their Windows 8 based devices.

Acer who will be bringing the Iconia W700 powered by Windows 8 operating system will Go on sell from October 26th,the base version will cost $799 while the higher end version will cost $999.

Too costly for a tablet? Well if you consider the hardware they are bundling with it,it looks like quite an appropriate cost because the tablet has a comparable hardware to any notebook out there in the market.

Talking about the hardware it will feature a 11.6″ IPS screen with Full HD resolution and will be powered by Intel’s i Series of processors i.e core i3 and core i5.The device will come in two storage options either 64GB or 128GB SSD.There is also a pair of cameras with a 5megapixel rear camera with 1080P video support and a front facing camera with 720P video support.

In terms of accesories and ports it has a bluetooth keyboard,a MicroHDMI to VGA adapter.It also features integrated G-Sensor, E-Compass and Gyro-Meter and of course WiFi 802.11 a/g/b/n.The tablet has a battery life of 8 hours and the booting time is said to be as fast as 6 seconds courtesy the Acer Green Instan On Technology.

Fujitsu Prepping a Waterproof Windows 8 Tablet!

We have already seen a lot of Windows 8 tablets from various manufacturers like Dell,HP,Asus,Acer,Samsung and of course Microsoft’s very own Surface Tablets,all of them  with similar features like their competitors and so far we haven’t seen any Exceptional feature from those tablets.

But Fujitsu Thinks otherwise,as reported earlier by Engadget,Fujitsu at a Recent Trade show in Asia showcased their upcoming version of Windows 8 Arrows Tablet,this tablet is on the similar grounds of their last years Android 3.0 offering which was shown off at CEATEC last year and like its older rother this one is also a waterproof tablet as confirmed by the booth worker.

The device features a pair of front and rear facing camera,a Micro USB port,a Micro SD card slot,no other specification or pricing details were revealed about the tablet.The device is However slated for late October or November timeframe,as we already know that Windows 8 will be released for public on 26th October so we can expect the device to be released within a few days of the official Windows 8 release.

Dummies Contest for a Surface Tablet,Hints at a $350(or less) Pricing?

Dummies has been one of the most popular books brand from the late 90′s,well known for its how to books on almost everything,ranging from setting up a PC to developing your first application for the same and many other things in life.

With Windows 8 public release around the corner its just aout time for how to books on the same,Dummies is coming with two books this season with one being “Windows 8 for Dummies” and “Surface for Dummies” and not just that they are holding a giveaway this time around  not just for the books but with a grand prize of Free Surface Tablet !

What makes it more interesting is that,the Contest hints at the Surface pricing as well,with Approximate  Retail value of the prize is being listed as $350.If we cut the books from the total price of the contest then it would bring the pricing further down to an approximately $300 price tag.

Though there is no official word on the Surface Tablet pricing,but as we already know that a couple of weeks ago Steve Ballmer hinted about the $300-800 price range for the surface RT tablets,so this might very well turn out to be the pricing for the entry level surface tablet.

Underwhelming PreRelease Response Raise Concerns ahead of Windows 8 Launch!

We are about four weeks away from the official public release of Windows 8 and for the various devices slated for release for the launch.But there’s no indication about how big(or  small) will be the response from the consumers who will be upgrading to or buying a fresh copy of Windows 8.Microsoft Has already made some good efforts to make sure that the launch live up to the expectations with lower upgrade prices for Wndows 8.

ComputerWorld, Recently reported about the prerelease version installs  as compared to the Windows 7′s prerelease Installs a month before the launch of the operating system and  as it turns out the numbers are not in favor of Windows 8,at the time of Windows 7 almost 1.64% users installed  pre release version a month before the release,while for Windows 8 the number marks at  about 0.33%  which is 5 times lesser than the predecessor.

Again this is just a pure pre release comparison and with the release of Windows 8 we can expect a better conversion rate with two different versions from Microsoft with Windows RT and Windows 8 and the fact that the operating system is being optimized for the touch screens,might just make the users wait a bit for the hardware release than actually trying out the operating system on non touch based PCs.

 So we would have to wait and watch if Windows 8 turns out to be yet another Vista or as good as Windows 7 if not better than the current operating system.

HP announces ElitePad 900,Windows 8 Business Tablet

As we Inch closer and closer to the public release of Windows 8,many of the hardware partners are announcing their upcoming Windows 8 based devices.

This one comes from  Hewlett Packard,the ElitePad 900 TabLet powered by Windows 8 will be targeting the business segment. The device sports a 10.1″ display With Corning Gorilla Glass 2,it runs on a Intel Clover Trail based processor.It will be available in two variants of 32GB and 64GB SSD.It will also sport a pair of camera’s with 8 megapixel rear camera and a front facing camera with 1080P support for video.

Talking about the ergonomics,the devices weighs about 1.5 pounds and is 9.2mm thick.Some of the business features include,Pen Input,voice input and accessories such as Smart Jacket for productivity which features a keyboard,connectivity ports and a card reader,the expansion jacket adds up various slots like USB and HDMI.

ZTE’s Intel Based Windows 8 Tablet V98 Shown Off

Intel today showcased their new Clover Trail Processors for Windows 8 based devices at an event in San Francisco.They showcased many of their upcoming devices from various manufacturers like Dell,HP,Acer,Lenovo for Windows 8 launch.

One of the devices featured in the event was the ZTE V98 tablet based on Intel’s neW chipset Z2760.The device sports a 10.1″ display with a resolution of 1366×768,2GB of RAM,32GB of storage space,a pair of cameras,2 megapixel of front and 8 megapixel of rear camera with 1080P video recording,with UMTS,LTE and WiFi connectivity options.

The device weighs in at 700 gms with a thickness of 8.9mm making it a slick device.no pricing details of the device have been specified,that might be due to the fact that it will be available by the first quarter of 2013.

Intel Releases Statement in Response to Unsubstantiated News Regarding Windows 8

All the enthusiasts over the world might be waiting for the public release of Windows 8 which is due in a monts time from now.But as far as Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini is concerned,it is still not completely ready for the final release.

As reported earlier by Bloomberg,a person who attended the Intel event told them that,Intel CEO thinks that there is still room for improvement,while it also  move which was needed to give a competition to Apple iPad for the coming Holiday Season since the Improvements can be made after the release of the products via an update.

But as per the recent official statement from Intel Corp. Calling all these Reports unsubstantiated,

Survey:Windows 8 Developer Interest Growing

Windows 8 is exactly a month away from the official public release which is scheduled for October 26th,but the windows store is already enjoying the developer love with a good amount of growth in the apps in the store.

The survey which was recently conducted by IDC and the mobile platform company Appcelerator seconds says the same about growing developer interest in Windows 8 with 33% of the developers prefer developing apps for Windows 8 as surveyed in the 3rd quarter.While the market leader iOS still wins the race with the most preferred platform by developers with 85 and 83 percent for iPhone and iPad respectively while 76 and 66 percent developers prefer android platform for phones and tablets respectively.RIM’s Blackberry platform however had the least developer interest,sinking to 9 and 8 percent for their phone and tablet platform respectively.

The Windows Phone 7 platform which will now be succeeded by Windows Phone 8 platform has developer interest of 21 percent,so come Windows Phone 8 we will see a growing interest in the platform due to common kernel for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been hearing about various rumors about the pricing details of upcoming Windows 8 and Windows RT based tablets from various manufacturers like Acer and Asus.

This time around WPCentral,has got hold of the pricing details of Lenovo’s ThinkPad Tablet 2 directly from the company.The tablet powered by Windows 8 Pro edition will cost $799 which includes a keyboard dock and a full license copy of Office 2013.Thinkpad Tablet 2 will feature an 10.1″ display with 1366×768 resolution!to go with a pair of 2 and 8 megapixel cameras,LTE,NFC and USB ports.The device is said to have a 10 hour battery life.

After this price reveal it would be interesting to see the Windows RT offerings from the manufacturers which are expected to be lower than the pricing of its Windows 8 counterparts.

Intel App Up has been around for a couple of years now,the application store Which featured a varied variety of app categories for Windows operating system.

Recently Intel launched the AppUp app for Windows 8 operating system.The app is now available over the Windows Store for freeso essentially its an app store app within a store which already has separate sections for Windows 8 desktop based apps and the Modern UI based apps,along with Intel Softonic has released its own app store app in the Windows Store.

Though it remains to be seen that if at all the apps like these will ever succeed since the Windows Store already has the Modern UI based apps,as well as Desktop based apps in the store!

Acer Windows 8 Tablets Pricing Revealed

Over the past few weeks we have been hearing various rumors about the Windows 8 tablets pricing.Up until now none of the manufacturers (not even Microsoft) had announced their Windows 8 devices pricing,but recently Acer confirmed their Windows 8 pricing details.

As reported earlier by TechJungle,Acer confirmed the prices for their upcoming Windows 8 offerings.The cheapest one i.e the Acer W510 will cost around NZ$ 999 which converts to around USD 712(straight conversion), while the Keyboard dock which would be separately available will burn a couple of  hundred dollars more.The higher end tablet W700 will cost NZ$ 1799 which translates to around USD 1260.

The W510 features a 10.1″ display with 1366×768 resolution ,Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.5Ghz, to go with 64GB eMMC,2 mega pixel rear and 8 megapixel rear facing camera,with 9 hours of battery life,while the big brother w700 boasts Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 1.7Ghz,a pair of 2 and 8 megapixel camera like the w510,a Full  HD 11.6″ display,128GB SSD and upto 8 hours of battery life.Both the tablets include Features like WiFi,Bluetooth4.0,Micro HDMI and a Micro USB port for W 510 while the W 700 sports USB port.

It would be interesting to see after this,how the others will react with their pricing,especially those with Windows RT based devices from Dell,Samsung,Asus and Microsoft.

Asus’s Leaked Roadmap Hints at Highly Priced Windows RT Tablets

After the Windows 8 public release,we will be seeing an array of Windows 8 and Windows RT based tablets from various hardware partners like Dell,Asus,HP,Acer,Samsung and Microsoft’s own Surface Tablet.Though none of the manufacturers have announced the pricing for the upcoming Windows RT based tablet as of yet.

But recently a leaked roadmap of Asus which is one of the hardware partners for Windows 8/RT products,has hinted at what could be the price range of Windows RT based tablets coming from Asus later this year,with the lowest model costing around $600 to the costliest one at  a price of  $1299.

Though there is no official word on this and it might very well turn out to be a preliminary Roadmap,but if Asus really sticks to this price range for their products,then it would be curtains for the range of Windows RT offerings from Asus and the others who will follow this price range and then only thing which cold save it is the cheap Surface  Tablet from the Software Giant.
